The Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council encourages young people wishing to enhance their leadership skills and add unique experiences to their resumes to apply for the 2012 Minnesota Soybean Ambassador program.
Students ages 18 to 22 who are enrolled in a two-year or four-year post-secondary education program related to agriculture are eligible to apply. Applicants must be able to commit to a one-year term, beginning in June 2012.
Ambassadors will serve as a spokesperson for the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council. They must attend at least one MSGA Board Meeting and 1 MSR&PC Board Meeting; attend soybean program activities as requested such as MN State Fair, Farmfest, and Ag Expo; attend the Minnesota Ag Leadership Institute in June/July 2012. And at the end of their term, ambassadors must write an article about their experiences for publication in the Soybean Business Magazine.
All finalists selected for an interview will receive an appreciation gift. Each of the three Minnesota Soybean Ambassadors will receive:
-A scholarship of $2,000. The first half of the scholarship will be paid after your first semester. The second half will be paid after your second semester
- Opportunities for TWO Additional $250 Stipends
Part of the application process is a 600-1,000 word typed essay. The essay is an opportunity for applicants to sharing their opinions on a soybean-related subject of their choice. Facts and research are helpful, but do not submit a research paper. Due date for all application materials is March 1, 2012. Review of all applications will be conducted by an independent panel. Once a maximum of 10 finalists are selected, interviews will be conducted and three Soybean Ambassadors will be chosen, by May 1, 2012.
