The Minnesota FFA Association is hosting an FFA Agricultural Policy Bootcamp today (Monday) and Tuesday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in St. Paul.
This first of its kind Bootcamp will encourage and challenge students to push past their current knowledge of agricultural issues and policy and become a more informed and active leader in their schools and communities.
Students are paired with agricultural policy mentors who will closely with them throughout the conference and as they return home to support their local efforts. Students will also have the opportunity to meet with legislators from across the state.
Some of the topics covered in the conference include the history of political influence through agriculture, your personal role in policy engagement and exploration of the legislative process.
Today, the students are meeting with Minnesota ag commissioner Dave Frederickson and visiting the Capitol.
Tuesday, the students meet their mentors and legislators, and they receive media training. This unique experience is made possible from a grant from the Minnesota Agricultural Education Leadership Council.
