Recent flooding in Southeast Minnesota not only destroyed small towns and cities. It also had a devastating effect on farms as well.
Along with losing crops, buildings and livestock, many farmers lost miles and miles of fences.
Dodge County Farm Bureau President Jim Checkel says that local southeast Minnesota Farm Bureau organizations from Olmstead, Fillmore, Winona Dodge and Houston counties are working together and coordinating a donation drive to assist those who had fencing losses.
"We're calling the donation program, `Fencing for Flooded Farmers,'" Checkel says. "We are accepting donations of fencing material no longer needed on farms, as well as donations of new items for fencing and cash donations."
Fencing supplies needed include 5-½ and 6-foot T– fence posts high tensile wire, wire ties, staples, 8-foot treated posts, wire (barbed or woven), electric fence posts insulators, fencers and any good, used or new fencing materials.
To make a monetary donation, please make out checks to the Fillmore County Farm Bureau and mail them to:
