Sept. 30 is the deadline for fall crop insurance sales, but Risk Management Agency Administrator Eldon Gould says since that falls on a weekend this year, the deadline is being extended a day until Oct. 1. He recommends producers of crops such as winter wheat, potatoes, barley and alfalfa make a trip to their crop insurance agent.
"We would hope that not every producer would want to wait until Monday to do that," Gould says. "I would suggest that producers talk to their agent as soon as possible."
While Sept. 30 is the general closing date, risk insurance for some crops vary from state to state and region to region.
