Three Minnesotans win Groceries Sweepstakes

Three Minnesotans win Groceries Sweepstakes

Minnesota Farmers Feed US awards $7,000 in grocery giveaway.

Thanksgiving is traditionally a time to share food and fellowship and give thanks. For three lucky Minnesota women, this year it means extra food to share and an extra reason to be thankful.

That's because they have been named winners in the most recent Minnesota Farmers Feed US grocery giveaway.

Grand prize winner is Gail Olson of Blaine who won "free groceries for a year," a $5,000 value. The two first prize winners are Crystal Nelson of Renville and Miyuki Watson of Shoreview. They each won $1,000 in free groceries. Winners were drawn at random from almost 50,000 entries made during visits to farmersfeedus.org.

Crystal Nelson, right, of Renville, was one of the $1,000 prize winners in the Minnesota Farmers Feed US sweepstakes. Presenting her with the gift card are Lisa Reeck, Farmers Feed US Coordinator, and Eric Watson, farmer and Renville County Farm Bureau member and leader.

The initial prize presentation took place last week at an on-farm ceremony near Renville where Crystal Nelson met local farmer Eric Watson and his family, and was presented with her $1,000 grocery prize. The other winners will receive their prizes at an upcoming presentation in the Twin Cities.

The Farmers Feed US sweepstakes encouraged people to visit farmerfeedus.org to watch short farm tour videos and then sign up for free groceries. The 60-day promotion ran August 15 – October 13.

Being able to take a virtual tour and learn about multiple Minnesota farms has provided a way to experience the state's agriculture for all those who registered for the giveaway. While the sweepstakes may be concluded for now, the website is still live and features 13 farms that represent a variety of the vast agriculture in Minnesota.

Participating Minnesota agriculture groups include the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, Minnesota Pork Board, Midwest Dairy Association, Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council, Minnesota Farm Bureau, Minnesota Corn Growers Association, Minnesota Turkey Research and Promotion Council, Minnesota Beef Council, and The GNP Company.
